Red Hat 7

Install Rpm Forge Repo

wget http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el7.rf.x86_64.rpm
rpm -Uvh rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el7.rf.x86_64.rpm
yum install tmux nmon htop iftop httpd php php-mysql mariadb

Red Hat 6

Install the RPM Forge Repositories.

wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.*.rpm

Make sure everything is at the lastest version

yum update

Groupinstall is an amazing tool. Try out 'yum grouplist' sometime...

yum groupinstall 'development tools'

Make sure you have the following packages installed.

htop wget htop iftop nmon sysstat iotop xinetd gd gd-devel
gcc glibc glibc-common openssl-devel gcc glibc glibc-common
gcc libssh2 libssh2-devel php php-devel php-pear php-gd
mysql php-mysql curl-devel curl libcurl yaml cpan man ntp
mail mutt mailx

You can install any Centos server without much of the above packages, however my chosen path for some installations is to compile from source, where consistency is required over ease of installation.
